Dragon Reporters and Ebook Writers
By Katharina Boser
"I love the iPads!” exclaims Third Grader Hannah Q with a grin. “I like to make Movies with iMovie and tell stories using Audioboo and recording my voice.” She joins the prolific Dragon Reporter Staff for the Lower School’s Tech Blog this year. Under the watchful eye of Dr. Boser, Hannah and her friends, Ellie, Madison B., and Grayce, told stories of the goings on about the Lower School. They recorded their views on many events, including the Locks for Love, Valentine’s Day, and written Winter Poetry on the Audioboo app. These enthusiastic Dragon Reporters interviewed Mrs. Lieberman about this year’s Science Fair. Listen to their recordings here on our website.
A new author in Lower School has just epublished her first ebook! Beginning last August, Third Grader Hannah Q wrote and illustrated her chapter book, Tickets, in a small notebook. After it was completed, she decided to publish her book digitally. So with Dr. Boser’s guidance, Hannah learned to convert the paper book into an ebook. Each page was photographed by using an iPad and saved as a picture and converted to a .pdf file. At home, Hannah worked hard with her dad to take the pictures. Then Dr. Boser inserted the converted .pdf files into ebook pages using the app Creative Book Builder or CBB.
Hannah’s story centers on some girls who are friends, but develop some friendship ‘issues.’ Web Robinson is the main character and her friends are Willow and Cricket. There are some odd happenings brought about by magic, but you'll have to read the story to learn the details. It's available as an epub file for a free download at http://bit.ly/hannahq_tickets
Stay tuned for the next installments in the ‘Web Robinson Series’ coming in the fall!
